Emperor Doom (Portfolio piece) by dimitriskoskinas Emperor Doom (Portfolio piece) by dimitriskoskinas
Watercolor inspired by the "Emperor Doom" graphic novel (1987).
Size A3 on 100% cotton watercolor paper.

This turned out a bit sexier than I was going for, but couldn't help it as Mrs Susan is based on the famous cosplayer Marie-Claude Bourbonnais.

Important not: Needless to mention that the original colors are far superior to this scan...

Sue's looking pretty busty there. Very nice paint work. Always cool to see comics treated in traditional media.

Thank you. It was a busty model that I used for reference ...I love traditional media too. I wish we could see some comics done like back in the old days.

I agree with you. I'm getting tired of the 'new' and lacking styles of some of the artist covers on some of the comic's I used to enjoy...

I like this. I've always sort of had a spot in my life for Sue, and Doom. >> Weird eh?

Personally I love the work of many digital artists. However I do not like is the fact that an artist can be below average, but cheat his way into the "art" world by using infinite "undo" commands till he gets it right. Art, and more specifically drawing/painting is supposed to be created by a person who has invested time and money (because art materials cost) towards improving his/hers art. I really love the work of Simon Bisley. He does everything by hand...check out the art in "the horned king" if you have not.

Oh, no I mean I enjoy some digital artists, but I guess I was thinking about how relaxed some of the work I've seen was. Never really heard anyone being upset about the undo command before? I mean I may not be the best artist around, but learning how to work on a tablet was like picking up a pencil for the first time. Except you aren't leaving a hundred erase lines in the work...Though I like the tablet because of that reason? I can't say I truly appreciate the tablet in general. I mean there are things you can do with Photoshop that you just can't do on paper...Yeah you save trees, etc. But? Give me a sketch book, and a pencil any day. =/ Not really sure if I make any sense here...xD Super tired.

We all use tablets when we need to produce things fast for work. However nothing can create a result like Simons Bisley's mixed techniques, or the real watercolor on paper...It would be unrealistic to try and paint a monthly comic title by hand though...
